PlayStation Vita Teardown: 5 Findings - ritenourbeety1943
Most PlayStation Vita owners South Korean won't dig whatsoever deeper than the game cartridge slot, so iFixit has done its usual thing and cracked open the handheld gaming system. Here are five findings from iFixit's PlayStation Vita teardown:
Easy to rip open
In a refreshing change of rate from locked-down phones and tablets, the Vita easy comes apart with a teentsy Phillips screwdriver and a plastic prying tool. There's not overmuch cohesive internal, different the recently torn down Droid 4, and the battery pops out with zero pain once its Phillips screws are removed.
HSPA+ inside
Along the hindquarters of the Vita's wireless card, iFixit found a Qualcomm MDM6200 mental faculty, which supports HSPA+ speeds risen to 14.4 Mbps. Despite this discovery, the Vita only supports systematic HSPA on AT&adenylic acid;T's 3G network, which is theoretically half equally fast. (In Japan, the Vita supports HSPA+ speeds.) In my own hasten tests, I confirmed that the Vita is slower than my HSPA+ Samsung Coltsfoot S II.
A homemade chip
Despite rumors last year that Samsung would be building the PlayStation Vita's quad-core Cortex A9 central processor, it's a native conception. Equally TechInsights rumored, the chip was a joint effort past Sony, IBM and Toshiba — the same companies that produced the PlayStation 3's Mobile phone processor. Samsung solely provides the RAM.
Specification refresher
Sony's official list of PS Vita specs leaves outer whatsoever specifics, so the teardown is a good admonisher of incisively what's inside: 512 MB of RAM, VGA (640-by-480 resolution) cameras in movement and back, and a 2210 mAh battery.
Some baking compulsory
Although the Vita is effortless to peer inside, separating the front plastic and LCD is another matter. To break these components apart, iFixit had to put them in the oven at 200 degrees for 10 proceedings.
